Anybody know anything about this transaxle? Is it beefier than the Muncie/Getrag 282? How big is it? It's rated for 250 ft-lbs of torqure vs 200 for the 282. I comes with the new turbo 2.4L liter 4 cylinder on the Neon SRT. Chryler Parts Direct does not list a price yet but last year's Neon transxle is only ~$1084 new.

I'm quite sure it won't bolt up to a GM block.

You gonna build an adapter?

Nothing imminent but looking down the road to eventually doing an SBC with a manual. You need an adapter anyway with a SBC and Getrag and just wondering if this would be a better option than using a Getrag where parts will get increasingly difficult to find. I've get a friend with a hobby machine shop so building my own adapter is not out of the question. But heck maybe Archie will take an interest and market the adapter plate.

Axles are probably also an issue. But New Venture is a GM/Chrysler joint venture and maybe there's some compatability.

Hold onto your wallet! The transaxle for the SRT-4 is turbo only and it is the only transaxle currently available for the turbo car. Part number is 5127573AA. The dealer cost is 2195.00, and your cost is 36650.00. I looked these up on the Chrysler parts computer here at work (Dodge dealer). I personally would rebuild my getrag than to pay this much for a trans, then to have to construct a mounting adapter Jason

Looks like Daimler-Chryler put the Mercedes guys in charge of the parts mark-up

In a couple of years they ought to start showing up in salvage yards and the Getrags will continue to disappear. I had to go buy Dodge Stratus shims differential bearing shims to put in the Getrag that went into my Quad 4 because GM has discontinued.

Given that these transaxles are 3X the price of base Neon transaxles maybe they are something special.

The brand new ones have LSD's. I think they also share the same centerline as our 282.

FYI, when 282 production moved to the NVG plant, the 282 was redesignated NVG-T550. Torque ratings are loosely based on numbering scheme... or numbering scheme is loosely based on torque ratings...

------------------
'87 Fiero GT: Northstar, Getrag, TGP wheels, rear sway bar, rod end links, bushings, etc.
'90 Pontiac 6000 SE AWD: Leaking ABS unit fixed, load levelling rear suspension fixed, still slow

From the NVG website

NVG T250 - 115 ft-lbs
NVG T350 - 165 ft-lbs
NVG T750 - 215 ft-lbs
NVG T850 - 250 ft-lbs

I think that Getrag 282 (NVG 550) was rated for 200 ft-lbs so it would fit the pattern.

T350 weighs 80 lbs. T750 weighs 96 lbs. T850 weight is not listed but if it follows this trend it certainly has more metal than a Getrag 282.

If you think that is expensive, you should try buying Mitsubishi(Stealth,Avenger, anything with the 3.0 v-6) parts from your local Dodge dealer. You want to talk about mark up. A platnium spark plug and a Champion at that (read: cheap), will cost you a cool $11.00. When you can get a Bosch ( IMO A much better plug) for $3.00 at you local parts store. Hows that for a markup?
