I was working on the GT. The battery drains in about 3 or 4 days if not driven. I noticed that the PONTIAC on the back was lit up without the lights on (engine running). I have never noticed this before but maybe I wasn't paying attention. Can one of you other GT owners help me out?

Thanks, I guess I have never been behind her when she was running before.

suspect the alarm if you have one - bad alarms / alarm installs were draining mine. Just remove the alarm module "brain" then recharge the battery to full charge, let the car sit for a week then open a door and see if the light comes on....

No alarm anymore. I ripped it out right after I bought it. I really think it is one of the headlight motors.

Not just running, but if the key is turned to either "on" or "acc" it will be on. Basicaly, whenever eletronical devices are able to opperate...the "PONTIAC" in the back is one. Hope this helps clarify some things up .

on 2nd note, if you turn the lights on, without turning anything in the car on (battery), it WILL NOT turn on (however the tail lights do).

Check the battery for a shorted cell at a auto parts store. If the battery drains to fast to dead from lights being left on or something like that, sometimes one of the cells will warp and short out against another.

My "PONTIAC" is on as well with the engine is running or the key is in the on postion.

Try removing the trunk light bulb for a few days and see if the battery still runs down.

Good luck,
Dave

I have the same problem!! It's not the trunk light or the headlight motors, or an alarm (at least not in my case). I haven't been able to trace it further yet (it's been raining, no garage). But hooking a light in series with the battery with every fuse pulled and I noticed it was flashing!

The flashing was at about the same timing as the chime system, so I'm going to pull that out and test it again this weekend.

Okay, had to change the starter today (cheap one, only lasted 8 months and died last night). So while messing with a few things I found the mystery drain!!

No it wasn't the blue thingy. It was the FACEPLATE for the after market stereo!! (it's a cheap one that I got as a temp replacement cause it does MP3's).

So I would suggest that if you have a removable faceplate on your car stereo, you may want to check and see if that's the reason for your current drain.

You can get replacement 4W bulbs for those PONTIAC lights at hardware stores (intended for Malibu 12V outdoor lighting) for $2.99/4pk, about half what they cost at even Wal-Mart for the Wagner or GE version. I'm using the extra-bright 11W ones in mine, but am keeping a close eye on them for excessive heat.

I have rodney dickman's full time power windows kit and I connected it wrong one time. It made the PONTIAC lettering stay on when the car was off. Check to see if they stay on and make sure its not that draining it.
