Hey guys, i recently bought a 3.4L crate engine from FieroGTguy on the forum. I got a bunch of parts the other day, and the only thing that arrived broken was the starter. The corner where one of the mounting bolts go in was broken off, so the starter would only be held on with one bolt. And the positive terminal on the starter solenoid was broken off. It was definately dropped by the UPS guy because all of the little parts were in the box.

Now on to my actual question

How do i get new parts for a crate engine? Like what kind of car do i say i have when i tell the guy at autozone i need a new starter? Will all of the 2.8 parts bolt right up to the crate 3.4?
I know the 93-95 f-body cars came with the 3.4, when getting like an oil filter, do i say thats what i have?

Thanks guys!

Matt

My 3.4 uses my old 2.8 starter. Same with the oil filter.
As far as service parts, they ought to all be the same as the 2.8.

You may find that your 3.4 requires an extra starter shim. At least mine did.

All the 2.8L engine parts will need to be
transfered to the 3.4L. If it already had
the starter on it, then that work for
drilling new bolt holes was done. You will
need to have the broken bolt fixed I believe.
The starter is a heavy part and subject to
the bumps/vibrations. If it is not held on
good you will be breaking starters and worst.
Maybe should go after UPS for apparently
droping it (if that's what happened). I'm
a bit curious that you bought a crate engine
from someone and the starter work had already
been done? The crate engine needs new
mounting bolt holes drilled to mount the
starter in the correct spot.

Anyway, You need a fuel pressure regulator,
Maybe an adaptor for the oil pressure sending
unit, if A/C - a modified engine mount. The
oil pump is larger so the oil pressure will
not read correctly on the dash meter.
Everything else is the same as the 2.8L.
There are 3.4L mod kits that you can get.
Some people go with a chip in place of the
FPR.

Oh, I see. Still a bummer that particular
piece was broken in shipment. Hopefully it
was insured from UPS.
