What is the sender reading on a cold engine.... just turn the key to run and scan the engine w/o starting it. If the sensor is way off the outside air temp on a cold engine, then you have either a bad sensor or bad wiring.
You can try this first by just scanning the engine.... Tho keep in mind that if the outside air temp has warmed/cooled a bunch over several hours, the sensor could be considerably lagged.
You'll want to unscrew the sensor and leave it hanging in free air with the engine bay open for at least 10-15 minutes. You also want an accurate thermometer on hand. don't go by weather reports. Your local temp can vary considerably from the airport or where ever the weather people read from.
I haven't tested a V6 sensor in a long time... I'm not sure how fast that intake can heat up or what a normal range it.
I can tell you that on the 87+ L4, which puts that sensor in the manifold... 150+ after only a few minutes of running isn't hard to reach. The numbers on this one swing widely depending on how much te throttle is open at any given time.
