Does anyone know the part number and if the valve seals are readily available at local parts stores? I'm talking about Pepboys, Discount Auto, etc...

Yeah, common item. Get FelPro, or Sealed Power, they're good brands. You'll need the intake valve stem seals, and the little square seals that go under the retainer.

He just might also want the exhaust valve seals and the updated exhaust valve springs; these parts will cure that little problem that causes big clouds of blue smoke when you let the Duke idle for a long period then hit the gas...

I take it that when I replace the seals this can all be done at the same time? Valve seals, upgraded springs, etc.? About how long will this take me to do? I have never done it before and I will be using the ole "rope trick" to replace everything.

How fast can you work? I can't imagine it taking more than half a day to maybe a whole day to do it, if you take your time, use hand tools, take lots of beer breaks, etc.

That's the best way to do it; get it all done and you won't have to go back again for many, many years.

If you've got the time and money, it's not a bad idea to just pull the head and take it to a machine shop and have them do the work for you. They can find problems that you might miss; if your car has over 100,000 then this is probably well worth the money.

The car less than 90k on it right now. How much would it cost to take the head off and have someone else work on it for me? Do I dare ask if this should be done by a dealer? I live in Orlando, FL. and almost every mechanic I have taken my car to does not want to work on it...I guess its a labor of love and they just dont feel the same way I do about it. Does anyone know someone reputable in my area?

The price will depend upon the shop you use and the prevailing rate in your area - I can't say, 'cause I'm on the other side of the country.

The dealer is probably your most expensive option - instead of that, go to your local non-chain auto parts store and ask the guy behind the counter for the name of a good machine shop to do a valve job for you. He'll know several and will be able to give you a guess as to what it'll cost.
