Just like the topic says. Who has coilovers on the front of their 84-87? I'm plagued by the skin trying to tear fron the shock mount. One side is already welded and now the other side is trying to tear. It's got a 2" crack already formed and rattles like crazy! So I'm going to opt for coil overs in the front so who has them? Got pics? And what parts and processes does it take to get them there?

Are you talkin about the bump stop or that actual body where the front end bolts? I have the RCC kit and it took a while to get that bumpstop cone off. It looks awesome but I dont want the the coilovers anymore I wanna go bags. For the 400 you pay for the coilovers you could go 700 and get airbags that will fit with little mods.

I don't have coilovers and am looking to find out what coilovers work. What I'm talking about is the upper shock mounts on both sides are tearing away from the rest of the frame.I don't want to have to keep welding on them so I'm going to opt for coil overs and just eliminate the shock mounts all together.

You won;t do it with coilovers. They mount exactly as the regular shocks. If anything they will make it worse. I'd have a piece of 1/4" steel cut and welded to the top of the shock tower. That should take care of almost anything. Good luck!

Forgive a Fiero novice for being contraversial, but don't the shocks on the front mount outside the coils? If so, the coilover shocks would not mount in the same place, but onto the upper control arm, inside the coil, and also at the bottom...

The front coilovers from Held Motorsports
do NOT mount in the same location as the
factory shocks...

In case the photo does not get attached,
I've placed a photo on:

For more info, refer to: http://heldmotorsports.com/sport.htm

I hope this helps.

Sorry to correct you GTDude but Coilovers mount where the spring is. Like this.

But I've found where to get them so all I need to know now is what modifications are needed to fit them.

There are two basic styles... The RCC setup that Stuart has pictured, and the Held setup that Dave has pictured.
www.rccspecialty.com www.heldmotorsports.com

Having absolutely no experience with either, here's my take...

I like Held upper mounts because they bolt in place. The Held upper arms should be used with Held upper mounts because they were designed to go together.
I like the RCC lower arms because they are adjustable for caster and the Held lower arms are not.

Dave: You didn't have anything to do with the original design of your lowering knuckles, did you? I've been wondering for a long time about the use of Fiero rear bearings with a welded bolt in them. Surely GM has a suitable non-drive-axle 5x100 hub that could have been used instead?
