Say I get a 88GT Fiero with a five speed. How much would it cost to make the car literally handle like a Corvette and run the quarter in the low 12's?? How in the heck to you get traction in a little Fiero if your pumping out 400HP?? and is there even a 5-speed that can handle 400LBS of torque and survive constant autocross abuse??

#1 get a car #2 Buy a V-8 archie kit #3 build a 400hp sbc #5 lower the front with drop spindles #6 Held coilovers #7 sticky 17s or 18s #8 try to find a sucker thats even willing to race you (most get scared from the exhaust note)
A getrag 5 speed that comes with the 88 fiero will hold 400hp. If you continuously beat on it, it will eventually fail. Should hold up to an autocross, just not alot of dumping the clutch drag racing.
This setup would get you low 12s, most V-8 fieros are traction limited. Talk to Cali Kid, he is in the low 12s and pulls over 1G in the corners.

Sayyyyyyyy....you pay $2.000 for original car. How much will it cost to get the car to the condition you are talking about? Please just estimate a figure: +/- $2,000 will be fine
The 88 Fiero skidpad numbers are already on par with the early 80's corvettes aren't they?
Modern rubber on lighter wheels, stiffer bushings, adjustable coilovers, and your choice of the many available powerplants (SBC, 3800SC, 3.4 DOHC, 4.9, etc) should make the Fiero a match for most current production cars. Others may argue but I don't think you'll find much more driving excitement for the buck!
I've been asked why I would put 20K in to a Fiero instead of a new car if I had it to spend?
My answer, I would have a new car that would stomp most cars costing over 40K!

I humbly disagree with #5. There are other ways to achieve the same effect without dealing with a company who has crappy products with poor engineering, abysmal quality, and won't back up their products.
Especially on the 88, since the company I speak of is the only one making 88 drop spindles.
If you disagree with me I'll sell you my drop spindles for HALF of what I paid. I'll walk away a happy happy man, and you'll be sadly disappointed.

I could have said cut the springs but I would have had 3 people jump on me instead of one. First time I've heard a complaint about drop spindles, whats wrong with them?
Cali kid runs cut springs, they can't be to bad.
I agree that they are the best bang for the buck. I found an 85GT with a wrecked front fascia, bought the car for $400. so far I've spent $4000 on the 4.9, nose and paint and now I have a car that would cost me $35000 to get an equivilant new car.
There are some bang for the buck new cars out there.... Neon SRT-4
