My alt. started making a horrid whining noise like maybe the bearings are going so I decided to replace the alt. I thought they were a bit high to put an alt. on an engine that I dont plan on keeping. Anyway I went to the local junker and got a 30 day guarantee alt and it seemed to be from a rwd car. He said that it tested good. I installed it and reved the engine and it almost pegged the gauge. When I drove it home tonight everything seemed alright but it still was around 16 volts. HELP?

check at the battery with a real volt meter to see what it is putting out. and if it has a 30 warranty, just get a new one.

The new fiero i just picked up needs an alternator too i believe.

With mine you start it and when you go to turn on the lights or anything it makes a squeeling noise. However, once you give the engine a little gas, the noise goes away.

Is this an alternator problem, or perhaps somthing else ?

any ideas?

May just be a loose belt or the belt may be hard and needs to be replaced. Just looking at it cheap first and more later if need be.
