Just as the subject says

I have been getting intense heat, and I was thinking this is due to my manifolds, however, I heard that if the CAT is clogged, it will heat up A LOT! Not to mention, once the car has been running for more than 10 seconds, there is almost no power at all. If I start it, punch the gas right away, and take off, it is normal, after that, if I try and take of, it is real slow.

Think this could be CAT? Cause if the cat was clogged, it would also cause my downpipe and manifolds to heat up more as well would it not?

To check the cat, see if it 'rattles' when shook. If it does, it's probably bad or going to be. to verify if it's plugged, remove the O2 sensor and drive it around the block.. If you've got some of your power back, then the cat is plugged! Intense heat is a good symptom.

Thanks for the reply

as I was waiting I decided to just go ahead and remove it anyways. I am going to throw a straight pipe in there istead of a cat for a performance gain.

When I shake it, it sounds as though there are about 5 or more 1/4" ball bearing inside of it.

I hope that is the main problem, because it doesnt look as though I am going to get that front side manifold off.

from what you said it definitly sounds like the cat is bad. i bought a 85 gt in really good shape for 150, it ran and drove, the guy i got it from said the shop said it had blown heads.it would start up but when you would rev it is reved slow, the farther you drove the more sluggish it got till you were barely doing 10mph. i changed the cat with another used one and spun its tires leaving the parking lot and has never looked back. i do feel sorry for the older guy who lost his fiero because a shop was either trying to get a expensive job out of the deal or just was stupid.

well, you take your cat by the front legs---very carefully now---put him/her on your flatbed scanner and hit the button
this will provide you with a "Cat Scan"

sorry,
had to::

When my cat is clogged.... he usually hacks up a hairball on his own.

Another easy way but involves a dab or two of j b weldis to drill a tiny hole in front of the cat and one behind, jack up the car, on jackstands preferably, and while its running put your finger over each hole. if theres exhaust in the first but the one after thren its cloged. if thats not the problem just get some JB Weld and cover the holes.
If you do it close enough to the cat hen a shop goes to eplace it they'll probly cut that part of the pipe out anyway.

I've only seen one clogged cat.
You could tell by listening to the exhaust. The rumble just wasn't there. sounded like it was obviously choked up. Also there was no power. The car wouldn't go faster than about 30 MPH.
Got so hot under the hood that it actually boiled the clutch fluid in the slave cylinder. Owner had to have it towed home.
