Alright...so I'm rebuilding my 350 and it's almost done...Just the carbeurator and a few other things left...

One of those things if the fuel pump. This engine is from an 81 corvette (as noted in the sig) and it had a manual fuel pump on it. The fiero has an electric fuel pump, do I need to get rid of one, or do I use both?

This may be specified in the archie instructions, but I haven't bought my kit yet, I'm finishing the engine first.

What you have to do is remove the mechanical fuel pump, and block off the hole with a blocking plate.

You will use the electric fuel pump on the car - but you will NEED to install a fuel pressure regulator because the electric fuel pump will "flood" the carb.

Many people who have done these swaps have said that if your car was originally a V6, you will need to replace the electric fuel pump with one from a 4 cylinder - apparently because the pump from a V6 still delivers too much fuel even with the regulator installed.

I would suggest you trust this information....my Fiero didn't have an issue with this since it was originally a 4-cylinder car anyway.

So, the quick answer is this - you need to use the 4 cylinder fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator.

I've often wondered why the mechanical fuel pump wasn't used myself...there's got to be a reason for it.

Cradle clearance??? I am right at that spot. Got archies kit, motor built, cradle out, removing bushings today. It looks like it might be close? no, maybe not.elec. pumps save like 2 horses, well maybe, fuel pump shut off, well not really sure!!!! I will also follow this post, I was just going to use the 4 banger pump anyway!

The axle will interfere with the machanical pump, that is why it is never used.

Ive got the OEM Fiero fuel pump in mine, with a Moroso fuel regulator in the line between the pump and carb. Edlebrock Carbs recommends fuel pressure at 4 1/2 pnds. Also hook the return line up to the tank so excess will bleed back into tank.

i tried the return line trick but all of my pressure was being bled off.

and when i was using the stock 4 cyl pump i kept killing regulators, 2 mr gasket ones, and 2 cool looking holley ones.

i finally found a carter fuel pump of the correct shape but is only 5.5 pounds and then use a regulator on it. and so far it's been happy.

i first used the stock pump and two regulators to feed 4.5 to the carb and 6 to the n2o. but now i'm just gonna have to use two different pumps.

and yes the 4 cyl pump is 14 +/- 3 psi and the V6 is around 45.

I'm using the stock 4cyl pump with a Mallory bypass regulator(#4309).
Works good so far.
