I've been exchanging emails with a guy looking for an ECM for an 85 V6, 4 speed, w/ A/C.

I have a bunch of 86 thru 88 ECMs that all have the same service number--1227170. In those years, it didnt' seem to matter what trans the car had, 5 spd or auto, they all took the same ecm.

Anyone know whether the later ECMs will work in this guys' '85?

There are only two usable ECM's for the V6. If it didn't come out of a Fiero, it won't work. Were, not without a lot of work.

I'll look and the see if I have the service numbers for the 1226869 and 1227170 ECMs in case you find some out of the car.

I believe the difference (in terms of the tranny) is in the PROM.
The 88s also have the rev limiter disabled.

I have heard (never verified it, though) that you can use an 85 V6 ECM in a later car, or an 86-88 ECM in an 85. The 85 chip is specific to the 85 ECM, though. And the 86-88 chip is specific to those years ECMs as well.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info.

I've already told the guy I don't have any of the appropriate ECMs.

If I had an 85 to spearamint on (I've got four of these suckers,) I'd probably try one of the 7170 ecms, tho. Wonder what would happen?
