I also ordered a set of stainless braided hoses, brake pads and caliper rebuild kits. I forgot to pick up some front wheel bearings and caliper paint so I will probably not complete the installation until tomorrow. I will be documenting fit and finish on the rotors and such for those of you who might want to try them. More pics as I go:
Everything looked really good out of the box. If there is anything in particular I should take pics of, let me know before I get it all put back together.

You are going to do all that and not change the brake hoses? I just went through a frozen caliper ordeal. Replaced the calipers and it still locked up. Turned out the hose was bad too......

Those look like hoses in the picture to me.

Well, crap. My digital camera bit the big one while I was taking pictures of the brake job. I wanted to get some good shots of rebuilding the calipers for the benefit of those who have never done it.
I took apart the rear calipers and DID NOT like what I found. The pistons looked like crap. There were no clips holding the inner pads on, just GOBS of silicone. The silicone had clogged a check-valve in the center of the piston (see pic) and some silicone was actually IN the piston. Look how beat up it looks AFTER I cleaned it.
Looks like somebody beat the hell out of the thing trying to get it back in the caliper. As a result, I ordered new pistons and springs so I will hopefully get more detailed about the caliper rebuild when they get here. I also painted the calipers yellow. I'll try to borrow a camera from work to get pics of the caliper rebuilds.
I rebuilt my rear calipers a year ago. Be sure you have the parking brake bolts and/or pistons in the correct calipers. I got mine rebuilt, and the parking brake was backwards! Had to take them back apart and bleed the lines again. Mine still seem to be doing fine. Good luck with yours.
Thanks, sqoach! Yeah, I have all the brake innards separated. I might have to trial-fit the new pistons if they are not labeled, though. Thanks for the tip. I don't wanna have to take it down twice.

looks good, i have 1 question though, biengs 84-87's dont have a vented rotor, and i take it your using a stock rebuilt caliper?? how do you provide the extra clearance for the thicker vented rotors??
i just looked at the e-bay link again, and it seems they just have a generic pic for all their rotors, so im guessing that the ones you got are still stock thickness and not vented? correct?
I was also looking at these rotors but for my 88 Formula. There are a few on there for the 88 by the same seller and other sellers. Two different sellers even have the same phone number which I think is wierd. Anyway my question is this. Who is the manufacturer of the rotors? Is it Brembo, Bradi, Zimmerman? When I called they told me Bradi (which is Brembo without the name). I just want to be positive before I send them my cash.

The rotors are not vented. They are stock thickness. I believe that the braided stainless hoses are really more of an upgrade than the rotors. I got mine from FS for $100. I'm sure you could find 'em a few bucks cheaper. I'm not sure who made the rotors. I'll look closer. At present, I am running a stock master cylinder until I do the REAL brake upgrade possibly sometime next year.
The guy I got these from was SkEpTiKAL101@aol.com . The ad used to have the actual rotors that looked kind of blue. The front came with bearing races and they mated to my shiny new bearings perfectly. Fit is right on. Dan said his stop pretty good so it seems so far like a quality product. He shipped quickly and e-mailed me the tracking number. Not an endorsement, just the facts.

I plan on doing the 87 Grand Am Front brake set up for my 86 SE Rears. Total for parts at Autozone : $70.00 and change, that is for 2x Calipers, 2x Rotors, and Pads! I am going with Stock for the front.
