my door ajar light has begun flickering somewhat.

it is absolutely the drivers door doing it.

I notice no looseness in the door when shut.

it feels like the switch is loosening in its mount.

where IS the bloody thing ?
how does it mount ?

'84, non-power doors.

The door ajar switch is located on the 'b pillar' a few inches above the door latch.

Open the door, look at the rear of the door opening, there is a switch that is pushed into the body when the door closes. IIRC it is somewhat close to the pontiac crest on the sail panel.

Actually... it depends what year... early ones may be on the B post. Later ones are inside the door on the latch. I'm not sure which year is what. 87-88 are in the door, don't know how far back it went that way.

My '86 has them in the door latch as well. I'd imagine if anything that the '84 model was the only version that used an "oddball" setup which most likely combined the interior light switch and door ajar switch into a single unit.

eeewrika.

it is indeed above the latch post, the pontiac emblem points right at it.

thanks

{ I am Real Bad at finding stuff in this car, the day I got it I had to go to the dealer to find out how to open the gas filler door.}

well, the nut is NOT loose, but the post/pin that the door strikes and pushes in is DIMPLED on the rear side, when I push it in it hangs on that dimple.
that might be the problem.
