I am tired of my 4x10 dash speakers. I purchased decent new ones about 3 months ago. They are "Memphis" brand. Kinda pricey, but I thought they were better built than pioneer or kenwood speakers. They aren't clean enough for my ears, I am now trying to think of some alternatives. Has anyone tried 5x7's? I know some people have shoe-horned 6x9's, but that seems like too much work. Has anybody tried plates? If so what kind and how do they sound? I am thinking maybe dual 4in 2-ways with differn't crossover points. Maybe all Infinity! Kinda asspensive, but you get what you pay for. Also has anyone installed door speakers? If so, where and how big is too big? I am not looking for volume, more sound quality. Good imaging and full spectrum sound is key. Thanks ahead of time to any that reply.

Anything if possible if you try. I have memphis audio 6x9s in my dash and it sounds awesome. The 5x7s should fit alot easier than the 6x9s I put.

just get some kick panels

I sold Memphis stuff for a while...great stuff, but a 4x10 no matter who makes it wont sound half as good as a round speaker

try plates or just suck it up and get kickpanels

Just for the record, I had Eclipse 4x10's put in to tide me over til I had time think out the new "system" and they sounded so good I just focused more on performance suspension stuff. The previous owner put in a medium powered Alpine that seems a good match. Pretty great sound considering there's not alot of skinny ovals in nature.

$160.00 but worth every penny, JD

Get components with 4" or 5" mids and make a mount plate to fit over the 4 X 10 whole.

Polk makes a nice set that usually goes for about $100.

Separates almost always sound better than 2 or more in 1's

PartsExpress.com carries a few 4X10's From orginals for about 1.30, yes a dollar. To way's for about 20 bucks. The stock ones they sell can handle 60 watts peak.So its all in what you want to hear.Luckily my Kenwood CD player has an amp..so I can still hear music with all that noise out back..lol

I have Kicker impulse 4x10 's and they sound great. The tweeter is angled, clear, and not to bright. Midbass is warm. Perfect for impact stereo which is what a Fiero is. Unless you want to rework a dash, or do something that is competition worthy I would use 4x10's for about $100 and then move onto a sub. With my 10' Hifonics I have a loud, low, clear, and warm setup.

Help, Someone has lit a Fiero in my a#@!

I made some plates out of wood and put in some 4x6's HPC series from Rockford and they sound very good.

I replaced my 4X10s last week and wondered the same thing. If you angle the 5X7's they may fit. Driverside opening is also rather shallow. You can reroute the wire bundle found direcrtly under the speaker to accomodate a thick speaker magnet.

I had rare Alpine 4X10s that the foam went out (partially due to a hungry roach). They sounded Ok.
I added a factory sub console and amp.
The amp powers just the sub. A DEH-P47DH powers JBL 4X10's ( I just bought last week ebay). Plenty of mids and highs but I guess unless I add a pair of 10" subs I will never be happy w/ the lows.

These discontinued 4X10 JBLs have durable non paper cones but still have a foam surround. I suggest that everyone whose smart replace thier speakers w/ rubber or similar surround. Foam lasts only so long.

Post pics if you can squeeze the 5X7s or 6X9s

Since we're on the subject of speakers, what are good speakers for the rear pillars? The blaupunkt deck I installed (got for one HELLOFA good price) has output approx 65-70 watts/channel, and the rear speakers can't handle it. The fronts, no problem. (Front are 120watt Pioneer's). The rear speakers are kind of an oddball 4x6 aren't they?

I have memphis audio 4x6s too and they handle the 50 watts my radio puts out. 4x6 speakers are far from oddball, almost every company makes them, like clarion, planet audio, memphis, etc. Its all about your preference.

On the note of how I fit them, I had to grind away some of hte AC vent for the huge magnet the memphis audios have. I bolted them from underneath then grinded the dash around them to open up the space for the speaker to have room to move.
