Simplest way, is probably to put a mechanical stop somewhere on it, that limits how far the headlight carriage can come up. Both types of headlight systems are designed to stop running the motors whenever they encounter a physical stop. A short piece of small steel cable (glorified string), one end fastened to the carriage, the other to something stationary, might work.

Try it, play with it, see how you really like it. Whatever you do, make sure it's reversible - so that you can put things back the way they were!

If you are using the stock size bulbs, it's a no go. You would only get a part of the bulb showing and they would be pointing up into the air at an angle rather than at the road.

If you are planning on shorter bulbs, then all you need to do is replace the hinged arm that attaches the light assembly to the motor. Put one on that travels the distance you want.

You didn't say what exact mod you are attempting.... It could help your answer.

As noted above... both systems are operated by torque limit. If you don't already have it, you should really consider the conversion to a Gen 2 system. (87-88 Fiero have this.) It is responds much faster than the old system.

If you watch the system... You'll see that the limit points are purely mechanical. The Arm on the motor stops when it hits a physical point on the frame. To limit travel simply add a new stop.

I don't recomend cable on the lift as mentioned above. You don't want to load on the lift or link like that. It would problably break it. They are strong but aren't ment to work that way.

If the OE lights don't open all the way they are useless. There is no way to mod the OE lamp setup to work unless it is all the way up.

Even with lower profile lamps.... you may not need to alter the motor travel. You could "simply" reduce the hight of the carriage to the new lamp.

Sounds like you're trying to install low-profile lights. If that's the case, you want the headlight carriage to come all the way to the top so that the front face'll be perpendicular to the ground. The headlight doors are not connected to the headlights, but are simply pushed up as the headlight raises. Install your smaller lights as low as practical on the stock headlight carriage, then trim the top of the carriage so that it lifts the headlight doors just enough to clear.
