This is a strange thing to me... but it happens sometimes on two of my cars... both 88s.

Sometimes when I start the car, the temp gauge will peg! All the way around up past the numbers. I can tap on the top of the gauge pod and the needle comes back down and work correctly. Are the gauges getting some kind of surge when the car starts? What can I do about it?

Common problem. There is a fix for it.

If you don't have Adobe Acrobat:

Not hard to do at all.

Not trying to be "smart", but this topic is well-coverd in the archives - it's a "feature" (AKA GM wiring mistake) that can be corrected by owners

Thanks Oreif! That is probably the same thing that causes my windshield wipers to cycle one time every time I start my GT as well.... And I can finally replace my faulty tach while I have it apart! Great!
