My 4spd muncie will ocasionally grind when placing it into reverse.

It moves easily into reverse but it is accompanied by a grinding noise... sometimes its loud, sometimes its soft, sometimes its not there at all.

I've bled the clutch and adjusted the clutch master cyl banjo rod(in length) to ensure proper clutch disengagement. The cables are set by the book too.

It's really frustrating having the grindage... not to mention embarrasing... I NEED your HELP Guys!

The trans is still spinning forwards when you are trying to put it into reverse. Its called clutch spin down time. Since there are no syncros for reverse and they are straight cut it grinds. Try pushing in the clutch shift into first and then stick it into reverse never letting off the clutch. I have found that this stops almost all gear grinding because when you shift into first you are stoping the input shaft in the tranny. Give it a shot and LMK if it helps any Dough forgot a C

Sorry I can't offer a "FIX" but as red85gt said since reverse isn't syncro the only fix I've found is to put it in 1st then reverse to keep from grinding.I've owned My 86SE4sp. for a Year and it's just habit to Me that when I want to put it in reverse I put it in 1st then reverse. I see this (grinding in reverse/4sp.)question alot and have come to the conclusion that since it's not syncro it will always do it.

Totally normal as long as putting it in a forward gear first stops it. The "cure" would be to add a reverse sincro (not really possible) or to use heavy gear oil in the transmission (a really bad idea).
