I'm looking at buying a Mustang style decklid scoop to help with cooling the engine compartment a bit. My question is, what is the best way to fiberglass it in place? Just use Bondo around the edges and then sand or is there a special fiberglassing method?

When I installed mine I sanded the area where it was to be mounted and then fiberglassed the edges then used fiber glass filler to smooth it out.

I also cut a groove for my scoop to set in and then used fiber glass resin to fill the gap and sanded it down flush. After the resin was set and sanded I used bondo to fill any imperfections.

MX,
The decklid and front hood are both made from SMC (sheet molded compound) so you should use a compatible bonding material and a good mesh or screening for strength. Don't use fiberglas resin or you may develope cracks after you paint. What I've used for the hood and the decklid has been EVERCOAT/PLASTIKCOAT SMC PANEL ADHESIVE. It mixes just like fiberglas and bonds reliably to SMC. After you cutout your deck opening, just cut a gasket of fiberglas mesh to seal and attach the scoop with the Evercoat. Then fill in the surface contour and sand it down. Primer it and you'lle be ready to paint.
