ok, i need help locating an adapter for a brake line. the line itself is good and has teh fitting, but i have tryed 2 adapters that go into the Master cylinder, but one leaks due to incorrect size and the other wont go into the brake line (this one is off my 86 4 cyl). the car is a 85GT. i dont understand what is going on, but from what i know it is the brake line that goes from the MC to a t-fitting (splitter) near the rear calipers. it is the lowest possible connection on the master cylinder if that is a different line than what im thinking of
any help is apreciated
~Mark

You won't purchase one that fits - from what I've been able to determine, there's no such animal that'll fit. The original fittings are M14 x 1.5 - the best you'll find is an M13 x 1.5. This is too small, and as you already know, you'll have a leak.

I've been down the exact same road you have, and there IS a "cheap" way to repair/replace that brake line you speak of without having to fork out over $150 for a complete new set.

Here's a link to an informational post I created on this issue.

This repair is permanent, and works. I haven't had any trouble since I did the repair almost 3 months ago. Good luck...

You mean the entire brake line? Cars of this vintage often have corroded lines, unless you live in the south. Three other cars had worse lines than mine. I surely would have been repeating the job again next year if I had re-used another rusty line. For $20 Canadian for 20 feet of line, it was worth the effort. Only original parts you'll re-use are the fittings - these will last forever if you're careful with them.

The above should have read $20 for 25 feet of line....

I had more than half of the line left over when I was finished with the repair on the Fiero. Not long after I did that job, a friend of mine had the same brake line burst on her '95 Blazer. GM has become a little wiser over the years - they've scrapped the metric line nonsense. Anyhow, I used almost all of the remaining brake line I had left on her Blazer. $20 for repairing two vehicles....can't complain at all.
