Can anyone share any tips on how to loosen the a/c compressor pivot bolt on the 2.8?

A stubby wrench might fit in there, but then there's the matter of leverage. Perhaps a socket & long extension, positioning the ratchet handle over near the left-hand side of the engine where there's room to move it?

A squeeky belt be driving me nuts...

TIA!

I've found you can use a combination of things - something totaling a ratchet with various extensions and swivels, and you can get both uppers from (kind of) above the cat.

Being highly flexible with thinner arms helps.

I went to the local Harbor Freight and bought two sets of obstruction wrenches. These are box end wrenches in a "S" or "C" shape. Great for reaching into tight spaces such as the A/C compressor pivot bolts.

I just did this... I put a stubby wrench on the bolt, but had to use a piece of wood and a rubber mallet to get it free. After that it was easy.

Good luck!

hehehe Nice one, Silver. Where there's a will...

I took a trip out to the local hardware etc. store this afternoon looking for one of the obstruction wrenches as suggested by 87convert, and found one of these instead:

What may not be apparent from the photograph, is that the ratchet head can swivel 180° counter-clockwise from its current position, and locks in position at 45° increments.

It was on sale too! My a/c belt? Blissfully silent now.

Thanks all!
