I'm currently running 215/60 in front and 225/60 on the rear. However, if I were to do it again I would go with 205/60 in front and 235/60 or possibly 245/60 on the rear.

88GT, 205,55 front and 225'55 rear. I like the rear, it looks and fits good but the front is to low profile. Now I have way too much wheel well spacing in the front. But it is the CHEAPEST way to lower the front end.
As for my car (86 SE) I have the 15" GT wheels with 225/50R15 on both front and rear. The car is lowered and this size gives me a small even wheel well gap.

I'm running 225/50ZR15 up front and 245/50ZR15s on the rear. That is the largest you can go for either with the stock suspension (84-87). I don't know about 88's.
I had Dunlop Sport 8000 on my car when I purchased it in December of last year. They were 225/50/ZR15's all around. Damn, could that thing grip!!!!
I now have the stock sizes in tires all around the car. Sumitomo HTR200's. They are a really nice tire, but the stock size promotes too much body roll in the car.
If I were to do it all again, I would have 215/50-55/ZR15 in the front and 225 or 235 in the rear. This setup would reduce body roll and help with the contact patch.
Oreif, do you have any problems with speedbumps and such having a lowered car with the 50 series? What brand of tires are you running??
I really liked my 50 series tires. They had a lot less roll to them and felt better in the corners and such...

My tires are BFGoodrich Euro T/A's. There is very little tire roll as these tires are pumped up to 45psi (50 is the max for the tire) I've never had a problem with any speed bumps. Here at work there are 4 going thru the parking lot and I've never hit bottom on them.

I have a set of 205/50 tires I used to have on the front of my '87 GT. They lowered the car and turned nice but for regular day to day street driving it was too low. Would drag the nose of the car going in and out of driveways and over speed bumps. I went back to the stock 205/60 and am much happier. I still have the lower set if I ever get back to the auto cross track.

When I first got my car it had 205/50 on the front and 225/50 on the rear. Too much wheel well gap and the ride was pretty harsh. Put stock sizes 205/60 & 215/60 on it this spring and the car looks better IMO and rides MUCH better.
