I need the GM part number for the screw-in studs that insert into the stands on the stock rear spoiler. I've been restoring a wing that was in pretty bad shape and I'm nearly done, but the studs in the stands right now are in pretty bad shape and I would like to replace them.

Anyone know the part # so I can call a local dealership's parts dept, or know another source of these studs??

I had inquired all over to obtain those studs for the rear spoiler with no success. So I went to HOME DEPOT and found all kind of sizes. They did not have the 6 mm studs like the ones that came with the car, but 1/4" by 2" long is what I got. They are .010" larger in the diameter than the 6 mm. I filled the hole with epoxy, stuck the spiral end of the stud that goes in the riser in grease and threaded it in the soft epoxy. That way when the epoxy hardened up I was able to remove the stud, leaving behind new thread. Then just do a sand job to clean the extra epoxy. Paint the studs prior to installing them in the riser to prevent rust. Having said all that, you must make sure the hole is not too small or you will crack the riser boss. Most of them crack with age anyway, so they are already fragile. I strongly suggest you experiment on a piece of wood to get an idea of the amount of time your epoxy mix will take to harden. Hope this helps. Mine have survived over a year of slamming so far.

You wont belive this but I have my reciept from 4 years ago when I ordered two of those weird bolts/studs from Pontiac/GM.

The part number is 20643712 stud 12.181 with a list price of $3.15 each. That was ordered through the Jim Fresard Pontiac-Buick in Royal Oak MI. I am sure that this number should be correct but please double check if you can for accuracy.

When I replaced mine I used some oversized washers (for support) and a liberal dose of silicone around the nuts and washers to seal up any possable leaks.

Good luck with it and let us know how it goes, ok?

Just to keep everyone updated, I just got back from the local Pontiac dealer. 20643712 is an obsolete part # that is no longer in the GM parts computer. The lady at the parts counter then called an 800# to some parts warehouse in Lansing, MI. It's an automated phone service where you punch in the old part number and the automated computer attendant tells you what the new part number is (wish I could have seen what the phone # was....it would probably come in MIGHTY handy sometimes). The computerized voice then said (she had it on speakerphone) that part number 11508509 is the current part # for the spoiler studs. She looked that number up and they came up as $0.63 each but you have to buy a pack of 10, so I placed an order for a pack ($6.30) which should be in on Thursday or Friday. I'm anxious to see what they look like, since the old studs were at least $3 a piece, which makes me wonder how "applicable" this new part number is considering they are like 80% cheaper. Might be something that "happens to work" but needs the "force to fit" method to use them.

(I really want to mount this wing since I currently have electrical tape sealing the holes in the decklid)

Keeping my fingers crossed .....

Ken S.

P.S. - Thanks jetman for the part number that sent me in the right direction.....
