my 1990 corolla was hit last nite and my side mirror exploded.. this morning i found some remains to the other motorists mirror.. i was just wondering if anyone could direct me on what sites or where to go to match the serial number on the mirror to the car or cars that could have possibly done it.. my road at that time of nite is only traveled by locals so finding the car/s might help me find the person..
A police report was made so i will submit this piece tommorow.

here is the info

68108 AF

<PPE + PS> CAV 2

and it has a big R which means right im guessing.

thanks

Unfortunately that's not a serial number, at least not one that would allow identifying the car. A VIN number is 17 digits long and conforms to a specific protocol. Your best bet would be to drive around town and look for a car with a damaged mirror and body work. You can bet the police won't do that, I promise you.

Call your local dealerships and ask them to do a PART NUMBER search. Give them that number and ask for what vehicles it fits. this will allow you to NARROW your search down to vehicle specifics. Then let's say it's a mustang mirror you'll now only be looking at mustangs for the busted mirror. Also with the parts you'll be able to figure out what color. If it's blue you'll now be looking at Blue mustangs. Also with the part number you'll know what years. So now you'll be looking for a blue 95- 2001 Mustang. Then you can relay this info to the locals and you or they can locate the car and look for some of your paint on the damaged moiror or the car. If there's a match there's a large probibility that's your person.

The top number might be a part number... It's worth looking into.

I think the bottom line is a manufacturing note. PPE and PS are the plastics that it may be made from. I think Cav 2 is what cavity of a cluster mold that the peice was cast in.
