I finally got my new 2.8 auto to start! Hurraay! For those of you that reported cars that flat out won't even pop, I fixed an orange "fusable" link wire on the back right cluster of wires. It was a bit frayed. I don't know if this was it.

I also held the throttle wide open. It was flooded. At first it popped a little, then more, etc.

The bad part is- it will only start with the gas pedle all the way down. Then dies as soon as it is in gear??

Could it be the TPS?

Hmm... get someone to smell the exhaust for gas... Might be running rich (or lean).

check to make sure it is not 180 out of sync

Depending on how long the motor had been sitting, you might wanna re-lash the rockers, I had the same problem with mine, then i remebered that the lifters had drained. building up the oil pressure made the valve stay open, so at WOT i could get some backfire, but thats all untill i relashed then it fired right up.

Update- car now goes forward-(and reverse) if I start it in neutral and rev it into gear, trans is not the problem.

It does seem to run pretty ok, not tons of power but yet it goes.

Black smoke, gassy smell.

Hurray! I drove my first Fiero!! I drove it around the parking lot next door!
