I'd replace the torque converter lock up solenoid. I just replaced one on a friends car and that fixed his problem.

I assume you have checked your trans fluid level.

TC lock solenoid usually doesn't cause late shifting. It usually keeps the TC locked and stalls the car. Or it won't lock because the core is frozen or the coil is bad. Doesn't have much to do with shift timing.

Low fluid will mess with shifting. Check it anyway. Fluid is cheap. (Check it hot and with car running...)

It could be a number of things... Here are a couple common ones that can affect all shifts. (If you have problems with only one gear change, it's usually not one of these...)

It doesn't seem to do this all the time so I don't think the TV cable adjustment is an issue.

The Valve inside the tranny that th the TV cable operates... That could hang up. I can't remember right now if that causes mushy/late shift or harse shift. (Can't find the stupid TSB on it either...)

If it is all shifts and Being that is seems heat related... Another posibility is that the governor is dirty and/or sticking. The Governor is in the same assembly as the VSS. (A gear on the gov drives the VSS...)

If you try to mess with the governor be very careful. The springs and weights are calibrated for the car. If you damage the springs even a tiny amount then the transmission will likely not work right again until they are replaced.

I usually recomend people let a trans shop deal with the governor. They have all the stuff to make sure it goes together right.

I think the Ogre might be onto something with the valve the TV cable adjusts. I occasionally have that problem in my '89 6000. What always fixes it is stopping the car and shutting it off, and while it is off, rapidly flooring the throttle a couple times. All was well after doing that. If I just shut it down and then restarted it, the problem would continue.

The TV cables start going bad and fraying. As the cables that are broken start to untwist, they bind inside the plastic housing and cause a late upshift because the cable doesn't return the plunger in the trans. To check this take out the 10mm bolt and pull the cable from the trans. Hook a wire through the loop and operate the throttle and see if you are binding. This is a easy check to start with.
