hey
im new to the fiero and im just trying to get aquinted with my car - 1985 base model, 4cyl, 5 speed man

i just had a few questions about my fiero

first
i heard that the 5 speed getrag didnt debut in the fiero untill the 86 gt year and while knowing apsolutely nothing about the history of my car i was wondering y my 85 has a 5 speed man. Also if it was put it customely then how do i know if its a getrag or some other 5 speed.

secondly
i keep hearing that the 88 model was the best year because of its power assisted stearing and better suspension. So i was wondering if there was ne way of puting the power assist from an 88 onto my 85 and also wether its wiser to just buy a custome performance suspension kit rather than taking the suspension from the 88 to make my fiero the best it can b.

thirdly
ive heard rumours that u can put corvette brakes and wheels onto a fiero. so far this sounds like the best otion that ive heard of for biggest brakes and tires possible (even though i dont know which year of corvette or wat size the brakes are but it is a corvette so they have to be big or wat size the tires are).

Problems with my car

i have a problem with the windsheild wipers. They turn on whenever i put the turn signal on. WAT IS WRONG!!!!!!!. My horn doesnt work either and i have no clue wear its lokated on the car so that i can take a look at it.

also please pass on ne knowledge that u think a fiero owner should know

if u would like to email me send the info to: bloodfiero@hotmail.com

thnx

1. Isuzu made a 5 speed transmission for the 4 cylinder Fiero.

2. The 88 had upgraded suspension but the power assisted steering never made it to market. A Mercury Merkur power assist steering rack and pump can be retrofitted to pre 1988 Fieros, if you can find them and have the retrodit done.

3. There are many upgrade brakes avaialable, many use a Grand Am brake swap, which causes you to lose the emergency brake. Do a search on technical brake topics. Many, very many are out there.

4. Windshied wipers going on is an intermittant problem with some Fieros and may be related to an electrical shory in the stalk. Again the search function can find threads on this subject. Same for the horn which may be just a broken or corroded wire in the horn circuit.

4 cyl got a isusu 5speed 85-88
6 cyl only got the 5 speed getrag trans 86 1/2 -88

88 got a full set of vented brakes
and a redesigned sept front and rear
but no power steering
a few power steering sets were made but never in production cars
88 rear only swap, is the best cost vs performance deal for a 84-87 car

corvette brakes canbe grafted on but they arenot cheap!
a Grand-am vented set canbe used on 84-87 fieros way cheaper and eazyer and on a 4 cyl you donot need the vetts brakes anyway, thats mostly for v8 swapers

replacment of the turn signal lever is the cure for the wipers
do you have the paddels still under the wheel they sound the horn but break off eazy

pull off the plastic/rubber cover on the center of the wheel, the contacts for the horn are under there, BUT are sounded by hard plastic paddels behind the wheel that have most likely broken off as allmost all DO

What the others said...

Also, the horns are under the front fascia, kind of in front of the front wheel well liners.
There is a relay under the right side of the dash that controls the horns. You should hear it click when you press the horn button.
Do you have the 3 spoke wheel, or the 4 spoke?
Most 4 spokes have a rectangular cover panel in the center of the wheel, with two paddles on the sides that blow the horn. Just a few 4 spokes and all 3 spokes have a cap in the center that closes a contact to blow the horn.
