I am going to use a hand operated vacuum pump to bleed my brake system. I have always been told and read in the manuals that you start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder. In the book that came with the pump it says to start with the wheel closest to the master cylinder.

Which should I do with a pump, farthest or closest wheel to MC?
Also, I did not "bench bleed" the MC when I installed it, as I was planning on pumping a lot of fluid to flush the lines. Is it possible I never did get all the air out of the master cylinder. I still have a lot of travel in pedal. Even after putting a quart of fluid through system using an assistant to pump pedal for me.

read about the MC in the brake article in my cave... It can be almost imposible to bleed on the car.

The bleed order is in there to.

You must "bench bleed" even if it's on the car. Just remove the lines from your M/C and attach the tubes that loop into back into the M/C res. Fill with brake fluid and pump the brakes.
The vacumme pump works great. If you have help, KEEP YOUR M/C FULL! One thing you need to do is remove each bleeder and wrap it with teflon tape, (some say to use grease but I've had better luck with teflon), this will keep you from sucking air around the threads.
I'll leave the "where to start" for someone else.

OK, I am going to re-do the MC and each caliper. I will use sequence in books for normal bleeding. I am pretty sure I still have some air in MC. Thanks guys.

P.S., I can't seem to connect to your site Ogre. I keep getting a "connection failure"

why is it hard to bench bleed a M/C on the car??
when I went to pick up my second formula the sellor said the brakes were bad or frozen as a new M/C didnot help, BUT pedal was soft so I parked it on a steap DW and got a bit of plastic tube and did a quick bench bleed in the car that results in a quickly working brakes for the drive home

Got Master Cylinder and all 4 wheels bleed ok. I think I did still have a little air in MC. I have less travel and better "feel" in pedal now, thanks y'all.

Ogre, normally I do not have any trouble getting to your site. I just tried it and connection was made. I must have had routing trouble from my location earlier.
