I have that chip. The thing I like about it most is the Torque Converter Lockup is at 42 mph instead of 35. Alot has changed in my motor, I cant say anything about HP gains. And I'm serious about the TCC lockup, helps with that stupid back-n-forth shifting when trying to drive down a 35 speed zone. I am thinking that chip is why I have a hard time getting over 20 mpg tho.

Well i was going to post a thread about this last month, but i did not want to get flamed by the usual people on this forum.....

My Fiero has the ADS Road Race Superchip. This chip has been fitted to the car since 1986.
Last month TK very kindly sent me the raw code for the Stock 85GT chip, as i was interested to see if my fuel consumption would improve if i put a stock chip back in.

I have an electronic engineer friend who burned the code that TK sent me onto a EPROM.
I then fitted the chip. I then re-applied the power at the battery terminal and went out for a 30 min drive so everything would have a chance to re-calibrate.

Well....... I imeadiately noticed that the stock chip was really lacking in Torque around 1300-2600 rpm compared to the ADS chip. There was no noticable difference though on full throttle.
As for the fuel consumption it was terrible with a stock chip. My 85GT was doing 135 miles to a full tank with the Stock chip. And 175 miles with the ADS chip.

Needless to say, 1 week later after i had carried out the fuel consumption calculations i put the ADS chip back in. What a relief, so much more Torque and drivabillity at lower RPM, much more pleasent and more MPG.

So there you go, i have tried both, and i know which one i prefer !!.

definitely an interesting topic... I have an ADS "Strip" Chip - sitting in a box in my garage.

I've been running my 3.1 with a stock 87GT chip for years (and have had the ADS chip in the garage for nearly 2 years). I have always planned on hooking up my G-Tech and doing a number of before & after passes while tracking all the numbers. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it

Then you've got something seriously wrong. My '87 GT would never give me less than 200 miles to a tank, more like 250 with a lot of highway driving. Even with the Northstar, it's still 200 miles to a tank.

With all due respect to Paul, I have looked at several of these ADS performance chips and find minimal differences over the stock program. The "performance chips" tend to increase the power and acceleration enrichment values, some even increase timing a bit. I don't know anyone who has documented an improved 1/4 mile time with an aftermarket chip on a stock 2.8L engine ( say day, same track conditions).
If the car was averaging only 135 miles per tank of gasoline with the stock OEM chip ( assuming a 12 gallon 86-88 tank) that's only 10.8 MPG per gallon. Something doesn't sound like it is working properly here. Stock V6 Fiero's should provide 24-28+ MPG on the highway and 20 MPG+ around town.

The chip gave no more BHP, well nothing that i can notice. Just the the pulling power from low rpm in say 3rd or 4th gear is much stronger with the ADS RoadRace chip.

With Reference to the Gas mileage. I was lead to believe the 84-85's had a smaller tank ??. According to my calculations the ADS chip gave 23.7MPG ave, opposed to 17.2MPG for the stock chip.
Thats using "Shell Optimax 98 Octane" Gas in England.

EDIT.
Forgot to Mention. I run 14 Degrees BTDC Basic Timing dur to the higher Octane fuel here.

I have the same chip for the same year GT. I was a sucker for slick advertising more than anything else. I don't that it's made alot of difference, but I'm too proud to relace it right now. I did notice a pretty good increase in pep when I installed a Catco converter and the WCF Flowmaster muffler. If nothing else, the car sounda fast!
Does the Fiero Store even sell these chips anymore!

I admit I haven't looked at the ADS or Hypertech's in a couple of years. They might have finally made some changes that did something. In the past, what they were selling was nothing more that snake oil.

I'm glad they are finally doing something.

I donno about the, the 2.8 has a reputation for really bad MPG.

Couple that with the fact that most fiero V6's arn't in the most perfectly tuned shape...

These chips are the biggest scam, especially for the Fiero 2.8. Some of the more sophisticated engines I imagine can benefit from a more aggressive programning, but not for the ole 2.8.

Confession: Years ago I purchased a Superchip, talked to the guy on the phone and he promised that it would boost the engine 25hp. I was stupid and bought the chip for $135 dollars. It did nothing though it took a while for me finally contact Superchip and complain. They responded with all kind of nonsense about this and that, and many other intervening variables. Knowing what I now know about engines, no chip is going to make any significant HP increase, unless its a turbo chip accompanied by the turbo plumbed in under the hood.

Bottomline!!! Dont waste your money!!!
