I was getting very poor gas mileage when I bought my car in Oct. It started at 15 mpg city! I did a series of things to fix it.
1. Replaced the old out of balance tires. ~ 17 mpg city
2. Did a full tune up including replacing wires, spark plugs and air filter. ~18 mpg city.
3. Replaced my transmission fluid with synthetic oil. My fluid level was about 1 quart low. This made shifting much smoother and the transmission went into gear easier. ~23 mpg highway with 200 pounds of luggage @ 75 mph
4. Fixed my EGR system. 27 mpg highway with 200 pounds of luggage @ 75 mph.
5. Drove @ 60-65 mph following grandpa home from camp. 29 mpg highway with 200 pounds of luggage.
6. Drove @ 80-90 mph for 200 miles. 22 mpg highway.
I will be buying some BG 44K fuel injector cleaner to run through my engine. I expect my fuel milage to increase when I do this since my injectors have 145k miles on them.
