I dont know, but i just did my 2.8 myself. Took me about four evenings after work to do it, a $15 head gasket set, $20 exhaust manifold gasket set, $15 intake manifold gasket set, $3 in bolts and nuts to reconnect my exhaust from the rusty ones that i took off, and some welding rods to weld up the cracks in my exhaust manifold, and about 2 six packs of beer.

I'm guessing around 10 hours labor...just a wild guess. I did a head gasket on an 88 Sunbird 4cy and even though everything went very smoothly, it still took me total of 10 hours from start to finish...I don't think a mechanic could have done it much faster than that...but who knows.

I've heard of head gasket replacements as cheap as $500 and as much as $2000 ($2000 is a total bull s#$% price on any car). But this is probably the range you can expect if you pay someone. Pretty sad when all the parts cost around $50

Don't forget to factor in the cost of resurfacing...assuming there is warpage...could make it more pricy

Can you do it yourself? I've done two head jobs in the past few months, they were pretty easy. Of course, if you don't have a garage or good place to work on your car, I wouldn't recomend it.

I would say 8-10 hours + parts and machining.
Then you never know if they will find something else they want to charge you for (new head bolts, lifters, pushrods, exhaust bolts, O2 sensor etc). Also they need to be very carefull about the plastic vacuum lines, they break very easily.....Paul
