I really want to lower my 88 Fiero gt. I've heard about Fiero's being lowered and the front sitting higher than the rear? I want to make sure that doesn't happen. A bit higher in the rear than the front would be fine.

I'm not building a race car. I just need a good way to lower my car.. Anyone have experience with 88 springs? Which ones to get? Or should I just cut my stock springs? Is that possible with 88's?? Thanks for the help.

What an invitation for a flame fest.

I cut my front 88 springs by one coil. I did nothing with the rears. Lowered the front about 1-1.5 inches.

I love it. I consider it highly successful. I plan to do my Formula when time permits.

Here's a pic. For reference, these tires are exactly the same outside diameter as the stock GT tires. (Lower profile on 17s, though.)

I'll step back and let the flames begin.

Anybody that flames you on this one is crazy. That is one good looking car! I loved the way it looked when I saw it in Alabama.

How did you cut the springs? Hack saw work (I hope?). That looks fabulous.. Does it still handle well? And does it make it hard for a shop to align it? Still looking for other suggestions also.. Thanks for your help Raydar.

I plan to add Eibach lowering springs and KYB's to the front of my Formula this summer. I like the look of the car having a slight forward lean. The stock backwards lean is not very sexy.

So for me I wonder how KYB's all the way around with Eibach's in front and stock springs in back will handle?

I cut exactly 12" off the front coils on my formula (measured about the outside diameter of the coil with a tape measure). this is about 7/8 of a coil. If I had it to do over again I would have done exactly 1 coil. anyhow - i used a cut off wheel with a wet rag on the side of the spring that was going to stay, and took frequent breaks so as to not heat the coil and ruin it's "springiness". I'm very happy with the results - the front end doesn't bottom out at all even when bumping up into my driveway, and it got rid of the unsightly gap. I'll have to get pictures posted someday...

Hey USFiero,

I lowered my 88 GT and my wife's actually. Mine now has Eibach springs all the way around with Koni adjustable shocks/struts. Here are some pic’s:

I love the way it looks. However, even if I adjust the shocks to "soft" it's rather harsh for my spoiled self (my other car is an M3). My car does handle like it's on rails though. Absolutely NO body roll

Quick after-thought

A local guy, Martin (Pres of the Wasatch Fiero Club such as it is) got some drop spindles for his car. They look just as good as the springs but maintain the stock ride quality (unless you go get some coilovers and fiddle with it of course.
