Been playing with my 87GT & need to jack up the front. Have used Ramps until now @ front...
I've got a common Craftsman 1 1/2 ton & a small er more portable 1 1/2 floor jack. Both of my floor jacks are too tall to fit under her to lift from the side or the front.
Do you use the screw jack on the jacking point to get things started or is there a low profile brand of floor jack that'll work?
I'm sure that I'm missing something & will feel Really Stupid once I get a reply...
Thanks!

I have the same floor jack ( craftsman ) and I slide it under front just in front of tires,on an angle. It makes for a short stroke at first but goes up ok.

Another thing to do is to drive it up on the ramps or a block of wood or something and then jack it. Gives you a little more space.
Despite my having one of the lowest height floor jacks made, I still have to do this with my '85 because of it being lowered and because of the large front spoiler.
I tried going in from the front but the air dam/deflector at the back of the GT nose was too low to get the jack under... I' ll have to try & scare up a couple of pieces of wood or use the ramps. Hadn't even thought of that, DOH!
Thanks again!

Mines only lowered an inch or so and I have a little trouble. Being young and all I just get on my knees and put my shoulder under the front facia or bumper and lift it a little and then slide the jack under it.

My 87Gt is stock height (unmodified as far as I can tell) with stock sized wheels & is too low for the floor jack to fit under. Hits air deflector in the ftont & aero mouldings on the side. Looks like I'm going to pull the front wheels & take them in for tires myseld since I don't trust the shops to hit the correct jacking points.
Just need to do the tires & repair a tear in the nose for state inspection...then she'll be on the road! Wahoo!
Thanks for the link - DK20...yum. looks low enough to work.
Thanks again!

Are you guys not aware that the fiero has balanced jack points?
Right behind the doors and in front of the rear wheels you can see a notch cut out for a jack, this is on both sides. Put a 1 1/2 ton or whatever size jacks on eithor side and jack them up at the same time. Now the car is jacked up and balanced and with just the weight of one arm you can push down on the back or push down on the front to see-saw up whatever side you want to.
Give me a Positive Rating for that one.....

The Craftsman 3 ton jack has a lower lifting cup than the 1 1/2 ton. I've got both jacks.
The easiest way to jack a low vehicle is to use the ramp idea....but not full ramps. Make a set of them out of 2X10 on a plywood base. Add a stop on the top board, so you can't go over, and make the plywood base large enough to add a handle and hook to hang them on the wall when not in use.
Safe, cheap, neat, and they work nice.

These are good solutions to raising the front of the car with a jack that is just too high, but I tend to agree most with Hartz in using something simple without making it a real investment. 2"x 6"'s are good and I can even use 1"x 6"'s to drive over before jacking both sides of the front up. Who doesn't have those in the garage?

Thanks for all the discussion & ideas. Found some scrap 2x6s that I'll make some low ramps from. Much easier than the old steel ramps that I have - they gotta weigh 20# each but will fit under the GT nose.
Great idea of making the handle part - will make them much easier to use & store & with 3 project Fiero's, I'm sure they'll get used quite a bit.
As always, y'all came through with some great help. That's what makes this forum community so great. Thanks again!
