Started to mount my 4.9/4T60E on the 87 cradle I picked up. I used the stock Fiero front left and rear left transmission mounts, I moved the two slots on the rear of the frame 1 3/8" closer to the center of the frame left to right like it shows in Rockcrawls website, Tigtened up the mounts and leveled the motor left to right with a level on the valve covers and made up the front right motor mount in front of the starter with a poly mount again like it shows on Rockcrawls website. The question I have is that I have about 1 1/2" between the top of the frame and the bottom of the crank pulley, is the motor sitting to high??? In the pictures I have searched thru in the archives the gap looks smaller, of course it could just be the angles of the pictures.
How much gap should I have???

Test fit your engine/cradle in the car. if there are no obstructions or such you are fine. You could also ask rockcrawl or another 4.9 person to measure their distances in areas you may have concerns with.

Yes your numbers do sound high, what you are aiming for is the center of the crank shaft bolt (harminic balancer bolt) to be in the same position as the stock 4 or 6 cylinder. The center line through the trans and engine crank remains the same for all engines.

Mine also measures 1 1/2 (93 caddy on 87 cradle). I also dont have it in the car yet.

I think you are all right. I used a level on the oil pan, measured distance from axle to the ground, etc.. I used the fiero mount in the location where you have to move the holes - so if level, we should be at the same height. the caddy mount fit right in on the other side of the caddy trans.

The front left Fiero tranny mount is exactly the same as the front left Caddy Deville mount so we must be right...
Anyone else do this???
