1988 Fiero 4cyl 5 speed.
The accumulator has two schrader(sp) valves,
in the haynes manual (page 3-10 photo 20.6)
it shows some kind of switch (over pressure swicth?) on the valve by the blower motor.
Mine doesn't have that, should i have one?
also my system has some freon in it but not enough to turn the compressor on and i'm going to be adding some freon-12 should i add
some oil and if so, how much?
Any and all help is needed here.

Thanks

Ed

87-88 L4 uses a differant system. It has a DA-V5 compressor and doesn't use a clutch cycle switch on the accumulator.

You CAN NOT use the information for the older DA/HR-6 compressors with a DA-V5. You will cause problems if you do. You can even fry the compressor.

There are some notes about the DA-V5 in my cave.

You do not have a preasure cycle switch on the accumulatorsince you have a V5 compressor.

You should evacuate your system and add a full charge to it. It is nearly impossible with a V5 to just "top it off" and get it right, the compressor will adjust it's internal stroke and you will be fooled by the guage readings.

Do not add oil unless you replaced parts or drained oil out of the system.

I have some freon-12 laying around. would it hurt to add 12oz?
I don't have the money to have a "pro" work on this system, it has some freon in it but i don't think it has enough to get the comp going.
Should i risk it? what do you guys think?

Thanks.

Do you have enough to fully charge the system? If so start with an empty system and recharge it. That way you will know it is correct.

Thanks guys.

No i don't have enough to fill the system from scratch, thats why i was wondering how much damage would i be doing if i added 12OZ.
