The black ground effects on my 86 SE are looking a little fadded. I took it for an estimate to paint them and the guy told me not to do it. He said I should get this stuff from an auto paint supply house. He couldn't remember the name but said it was like black shoe pollish. Has anyone heard of this and or tried it? Why not just repaint them?

You talking about the rubber pieces under the nose? Id just use some black vinyl paint on them, dull or gloss. You could try stuff called Color Back for using on black mouldings too (id say that was what he was talking about). You can get that at any auto parts store

I have used two kinds of stuff on black trim.

One is called Black Again. It rejuvinates the finish, but is not really a dye.

The other is Forever Black. It is more of a dye. I have had pretty good results with it. It does go on like liquid shoe polish.

You can probably find either by doing a web search.
