The Z24 I got my engine out of has a 5spd getrag but it has a hydraulic realease bearing instead of a slave cylinder. Can I use the release bearing on my Fiero if I switch to the getrag trany? It would be nice to get rid of the slave cylinder if I turbocharge my car.

I don't see why it would be a problem mechanically....

The only posible problems I can think of is if the Fiero clutch MC can't move enough fluid or can't deliver enough pressure.

If you have access to the donor still... you should yank it's clutch MC so you can compair them if needed. They might even be interchangable but don't count on that.

It's worth trying for sure. It eliminates not only the problematic slave but the rest of it as well.

It's '93 Z24 with a aluminum head 3.1 it was hit right in front of the drivers door so the clutch master is smashed and I just bought a new master for my Fiero so I don't really wan't to replace it again. Do the guys that use the front wheel drive getrag's switch to a slave cylinder? I'm using the 3.1 clutch on my 4spd so the clutches must be the same.

The vast majority of Getrags were made before that, when they still used slaves. I wasn't even aware that there were Getrags that used a hydraulic throwout.

Based on my experience with a Jeep Cherokee . . .

Maybe you could do it, but why would you want to? The hydraulic relase bearing is still a slave cylinder of sorts, and eventually it will leak. When it leaks, you'll have to remove the transmission to change it.

I just got a Getrag with 3.94 gears from a '93 Achieva SCX, which used the hydraulic throw out bearing. I got the TOB with the tranny, but I haven't actually seen the trans yet. I want to determine the possibility of using the hydraulic TOB to simplify use on aftermarket clutches and also in an attempt to add more clearance for exhaust, turbo, etc.

I'm a long way from actually seeing if it's possible to adapt, probably a month or two, but I'll let the list know what I find out.
