hay guys, i have a 4-banger with a stock exhaust system, which by the way sounds nice, my friend says it sounds like i have a v6 back there. than we got to thinking, what would a flow master sound like on there? i don't want it to sound high pitched and whiney like a fu*king civic rice rocket. i want a nice deep mellow sound, will i get it?
if not what will i get?

I have a friend who just put in a flow master last week end.I wasnt too impressed (not a flame)I think the stock muffler sounds much better.or Borla is supposed to sound good,or a Cherry Bomb muffler called a resinator.

Wait until you purchase the Camaro Flowmaster 80 Series Muffler. It makes it sounds like you have a V-8 under the hood. The 80 Series performance street muffler is specially designed for applications where the muffler must be mounted transversely (crossflow)behind the rear axle, either to match an OE system or for increased ground clearance. The 80 Series is a true crossflow with single or dual inlet/dual outlet configurations and produces a powerful aggressive muscle car sound.

Lisa just got a flowmaster put on her GT. It sounds like stock to me and they had to make all kinds of special pipe to get it to fit. Not worth the bucks in my opinion.($250 I think, installed). I think a lot of people here just eliminate muffler altogether and put on reasonator tips which I think sounds a lot better.

Rogergarrison,
It was probable not the series 80 muffler. Very few people have done that swap. It has a very deep low aggressive V-8 sound.

I met a guy here that had a flowmaster put on his 87 GT and it sounds really good and not to loud either just the perfect tone, I think it is alot better than stock, sound kinda like a small V-8. There was some customizing though but I think it would be worth it. Just my 2 cents worth thou.

Look at flowmaster's website. They have sound clips that you can try. From 4 bangers to the V-8's.

So the 80 sounds pretty good? On the site it said that it's only for V-8 applications. (I know that it doesn't HAVE to go on V-8's, but that's apparently what they recommend). I put a 60 on my Saturn when I had it and was very impressed with the difference that it made (along with the Iceman CAI and the 2" Cat-back). The 60 is designed for the smaller engines, but I want something different for my Fiero.

i have GM performance exhaust 2.25" with a cat and muffler and 2 unresignated MONZA 4 inch chrome tips and my exhaust sounds awsome...not too loud when idling...but still a nice rumble...but when you rev it up it screams....on the highway it can give you a head ache though....so if i were you i'd go stealth mode....and take out your trunk and put in a corvette muffler and make it a sleeper
hahaha

Apparently the higher the series number the less noise reduction it makes. The series 80 models is the less noise restriction of the mufflers they make. The quietest muffler starts at the 40 series, than the 60 series is the middle, and the top of the line and the most loudness is the 80 series.

fierocsp - Are you sure about that? I know the 40 series is a 2 chamber muffler and the 50 series is a 3 chamber.. The 2 chamber muffler is a lot louder than the 3, which would contradict your theory..

Cheers,

Look up flowmaster at this address and compare for yourself. http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/web10/productsf5.html
Compare the 80 series, 60 series, and the 40 series. The 80 series is the most powerful and aggressive sounding muffler out of these three designs.
