It would be REALLY close. I have 235/45/17's and they are just about 1/8th" or less from rubbing on the strut. Since yours are 40's I don't know. I know I'm glad I didn't go with 245's but I was going to get 45's not 40's.

Your tires may or may not fit depending on lots of factors. For a more informed opinion, please tell us your wheel size, wheel offset, and if you have coilovers or not.

So far I havn't bought the wheels yet but I figured since I am getting the tires at cost, I work at a tirestore, I would just pick them up till I have the $1000 to get the rims.
Soo far the suspension is stock but I am planning to put lowering springs in it with a full poly bushing kit.
Unfortunatly the suspension and wheels have to wait till I have the newly built engine installed into the car and the brake upgrade done.

Sound's like you have to do alot BEFORE you would even need the tire's... and since you work there you could use the $$ your going to spend on these tire's now and just use your discount at a later time.. Like when you have the wheel's atleast...
Smooth!!

Just remember a 245 is 20 mm wider than a 225 regardless if its a 40 or 45 series or whether its a 16,17 or 18" wheel.Tirerack.com has a great chart comparing different Widths and sidewall ratios.

ok soo will they fit without rubbing on anything?????
this is the only thing that I need to know
Nashco already gave you the info you need. Your tire may rub when mounted on one wheel, and not rub when mounted on another. You NEED to know wheel size, width, and offset BEFORE anyone can answer your question. You can put a wider tire on a car with coilovers than you can one with the stock suspension, due to the smaller spring perch that coilovers have. So, it's almost impossible to answer your question until you've determined the exact specs on the wheels you intend to use.

Remember that the overall diameter will be smaller with the 40-series. I have 17x7 inch wheels with 225/45s and it is getting close. 235/45s would be really close. If you get the 40-series, it would let you go wider because the tire would almost be able to go slightly under the spring perch. This is what I gather from looking at my car, I could be wrong.
