Ok. I need ideas. No ideas will be treated in a disrespectful manner or otherwise ridiculed.
I've got an 85 GT that is not running. I'm moving to Illinois. My intention is to tow the Fiero on a trailer. The trailer will a flatbed style; the kind where you drive the vehicle onto the trailer.
Because the vehicle does not run I need to get it onto the trailer. I do not own a winch but I'm willing to spend up to $50 in parts/tools etc. to get the vehicle on the trailer.
Help! I'm thinking of a come-along but I'm not sure. I'm hoping someone else has dealt with this before and will be kind enough to tell me what s/he learned.
See if you can rent an electric winch somewhere. Techniques I've seen used: Winch, both manual and electric, come-along, several big, burly, thirsty friends ($50 buys a lot of beer). I've also seen some risky methods, including chocking the trailer wheels (all 4 of them) and using the tow vehicle to pull the car up on the trailer with a tow strap. Inflate the tires to the maximum pressure shown on the sidewalls, and if the rotors are all rusted and dragging, spray oil on them. Don't worry, if they're that far gone you'll be doing a brake job anyway. Keep some wood on the trailer handy to act as a wheel stop so the car doesn't keep rolling right into the front of the trailer.

when my starter blew i just phoned a tow truck that was a flat bed with a winch on it and he just hooked up to the back of my fiero (somewhere im not sure) and pulled my fiero on...
problem solved
this depends if you are using a tow truck or just a flat bed trailer though
hope this helps -Phil

I just got 2 other guys and a boy to help me push my car on a set of ramps. The boy was inside steering (keeping it straight)and put the brake on, put it into gear and applied the parking brake.

Just bought a non-runner a week ago..that's what we used...a come-a-long and chain..just make sure you have a long chain, the come-a-long cable is fairly short and only reaches the middle of the trailer.

I use an electric boat trailer winch. works fine, and hardly any effort at all to get in on the trailer. Also have one in shop, to pull dead cars into the shop.(chain in floor to anchor it) no more pushing cars by hand....
