RPM at 70 mph???? by brookshire

Hi,

I have an 86 SE 2.8

What is the normal rpm at 70 mph??

Mine seems high at 3500 rpm.

It would help to know what you are running. 4-spd, 5-speed, or automatic. And, what ratio.

In my 3.33 auto it is 3k from my view right up next to the wheel. Suspect if I was taller and the seat was farther back, I would see it as 3.2k.

Also, instruments can lie. If any piece of the tach circuit is faulty, you could get an incorrect reading.

I have an auto and since I can't figure out what 70mph is in kmh I can tell you that my car does 3400 at 120kmh, if that helps?

as long as it runs steady and smooth you have no worries, mine runs 3300-3500 at 70 mph, but its a 5 speed

Suspect you have a 4.10. If so, rpms are correct and you must have fun from stop light to stop light.

the 4 speed in my 84 350 was 3500 at 70.
the zuzu 5 speed knocked it down to about 2500 at 75.

My V-8 auto runs 70mph @ 3100rpm which=17.5mpg. Oh it's a carb also. Have a Great Day Everyone. Thanks Gary
