first off, which box is actually better? and with each box which other parts do i need to purchase to make the installion easier? i noticed at jeggs they have a adapter for the msd box that plugs it into a two plug ignition coil, does that mean it plugs right into the fiero? are they worth the 200-250 bucks for them?

i'd personally go with MSD, summit and jegs have all the parts (box, coil, harness adapter), but i think someone posted awhile ago that cranes specs were a little better than MSD's. i don't think you can go wrong with either manufacturer. you'll get a smoother idle and the engine will rev quicker, maybe a little better gas mileage, i'd say they're worth it.

I'd say go with the crane. I have MSD stuff, and am switching to a crane coil. Crane also makes the direct GM plug and is supposed to put out more power.

Crane is having a special offer again. Get the HI6 ignition and they give you a free performance coil($70 value). Don't forget to order the wiring adapter so you don't have to splice any wires. Check it out at www.cranecams.com

Go with MSD. get the 6-a box and blaster coil. get the wiring harness and you just plug everything in no splicing of wires. also MSD is rated as the number ignition in the country, also the first 10 cars that finished the Daytona 500 were using MSD ignition. Don

Crane Fireball is the system I chose. After many reviews and talking with members of local car clubs, I wnet with the Crane system. Crane has all the same harness adapters that MSD has so wiring is easy. BTW ~ 4-wheel drive magazine did a side by side comparison and found the Crane to be better under extreme conditions (hot, cold, damp, dry, mud-caked, etc) MSD is very popular. I would say with either system you can't go wrong. Both are 100 times better than the stock ignition system.

An engine dyno test using popular aftermarket ignition boxes done by Car Craft a few months ago, showed no significant difference in performance between the MSD, Crane, Mallory, Holley and other brands. I have always used the MSD 6-A boxes with excellent results but the Mallory Hi-Fire is less expensive and will provide equivalent spark energy. It is important to upgrade the coil for optimum performance. The stock coil falls short at elevated RPM's.
thanks guys, ive decided to go with a crane HI-6 unless i read something good about the mallory ignition, right now i have a mallory coil and it failed on me after 4k miles. im not sure if i wanna go that route again.
