Minus speedo, and both front wiring harnesses? or will not having some modules hooked up cause problems? just want to recharge the battery for a min and give it a run since its been on jacks for a month. whatca think? front harness comes in less then a week. (wait for it?) I would like to set my tach, I'm bored and out of things to do till I get more toys.

Should be fine. I had dismantle an 88 GT. I wanted to keep the engine startable because I could sell if for more if I could let them hear it. I had the front harness removed as well as the entire dash. I only left the wires to the ignition switch. It started and ran fine like that.

Just remember without a front harness you won't have a radiator fan.

The engine will start to over heat well before the battery gets a good charge with the engine idling.

If your gonna run it, drive it ( stay in motion) the airflow thru the rad will keep it cool.

Seems like a lost cause, either way without the harness's up front, you are going to run into issues, no front lights, etc.

Ahhh man that engine is awesome.. fires up faster and runs smoother then most brand new cars.. umm jelly.. kind have a few probs with your post though.. LOL no driving yet due to not having more then a radiator infront of the windsheild.. LOL only ran it for about 5 mins, would never over heat that fast. Funny though.. runs sooo much better without the old fried crappy melted together front wire harness!!
One Q though.. would the main gauges still work once I pluged them in or not? cause I've got a not. main thing is I want to relocate my tachs needle to point to zero on my 9G tach. But Im not getting any life from the speedo or tach but the dash lights work.. Hummm Thanks

running it for a few minutes won't do much for you...

Buy a battery charger. They aren't that expensive. You can even get ones with auto shutoff or auto trickle for under $30.

Running it will stir up the coolant. Coolant will separate if left sit. Once that happens the cooling system is in danger. Even a short run will help here but that's the only thing a short run will do good for.

Question is how long can you run it... You need 15-20 minutes at least, preferably longer, to really get the battery fully up and to get the engine hot enough to drive moisture out. If you don't do both, running it could actually do more harm than good.

Problem is you can't run it long w/o a fan for the radiator. Depending what motor and the air temp, it could over heat in a few minutes. If you have AC power near, you can use a fan from the house to move some air. Any air is better than non. If the hood is open/off it will also help.

You can run the engine ok without gauges but it's a bit dangerous. If you are low oil or high temp, you won't have any way to know.
