Hi, I am new on this Forum but I am not new at Fieors. Well lets get to the point, I am designing a remote controlled hydraulic system to open, raise, and close the hood and deck lid. I have just started this project a couple weeks ago and everything is going really good. I was planning on buying a strut kit from www.rodneydickman.com and I was going to replace the struts with hydraulic cylinders, but while the hood is closed the struts are lyeing horizontal which is phisically impossable to work with so I need to figure out where to mount the hydraulic cylinders. I was hopeing that someone has accomplished this before or has even tried to do this and can maybe give me a hint on where to locate the cylinders. Any information on this project would be greatly appreciated. Also I would like your feedback on whether or not your interested in installing something like this in your Fiero.

I am also looking to install a completely new interior in my fiero leather, suade, dash and all. Anyone have any trick ideas??

Thanks,
Harley

You don't want to have the cylender verticle to start. Ideally, you want to have it mounted on a angle, at 90º to the hood/deck the cylender has its most effective lifting force, and its at the point that the hood/deck is fulley closed that you need the most force to open. Just keep that in mind.

Hiya Harley WELCOME TO THE FORUM !!!!!!!

I don't specifically have much experience with the type of mods you are talking about, but I am quite interested. There are few mods that I haven't seen presented before and this is one of them. This sounds like a very interesting project and I'd be glad to help you with it in any way I can.

I've got about 27 years of GM experience and LOTS of Fiero experience, so if you need a co-conspirator on this project or a consultant, be sure to contact me. Sounds exciting to me! You can contact me by email skyhawk@moonstar.com . Good luck!

Phil

Hey Timmer I am also planning on trying to do my doors but I want to complete this part first. Do you know where to mount the cylinders on the hood and trunk lid? Also do you have any good sources for the parts like Mac or SMC or something like them. I have the complete hydraulic circut and electric circut for the hood and trunk lid designed and tested, but now I need to figure out where to put the cylinders. I was also considering electronic actuators for the hood and trunk lid but if they fail you cant override them. Whats your plans on that? Thanks everybody for the advise. Harley

LMAO yea I think Jesse thinks those thing are the answer for everything ( although he usually overloads them and burns them up)

If you really do want to do this there is a catalog company called northern tool & equipment. they used to be called northern hydraulics when they first started sending me their catalog. Anyway they have all kinds of pumps and actuators. It wouldn't take much of a pump or cylinder. They have a web site too NorthernTool.com. I don't know much about it myself, but good luck
