I was looking around for some body parts for my 88 Formula this a.m. and I found a GT with the factory radio in it. The price was right, so I took a chance and brought it home. I'd like to know, before I go taking things apart, if the car is factory prewired for this radio. I'd also like to know where the subwoofer is hidden in that GT. If there isn't any prewiring in there, that radio is for sale, $20 + shipping Thanks

Well, as for the subwoofer either it has it or it doesn't. If you don't see the "performance Sound" slide control on your dome light, you don't have it.

The wiring is the same for all fiero stereos. The only variations are that the '84 & '85 models have 3 part plugs instead of mono plugs and they had speakers in the headrests instead of the 'B' pillars.

If the car did not come with a radio... it may not have speakers.

Lift the speaker grills on the dash and see what is under them.

If there are no speakers... The wiring might still be there. GM and other car makers try to avoid having any more wiring harnesses than they need. Since most cars have a radio, the harness may have the wiring in all Fiero.

You'll have to look to be sure. If the wiring is there, you'll find connectors just like the donor had. The big one is main power and speakers. the little one is clock/standby power and lamp/display dimmer input.

If those connectors are there, then the car is wired. If there are no speakers, then you'll have a fair amount of work installing rear ones. Fronts are easy once you find the connectors, which may be tapped to or hidden in the harness.

Thanks guys: my car has a radio/tape player in it and speakers, front and rear. The radio that I picked up has three connectors stacked together and one separate 2 wire. I just cut the wires loose on the radio that I bought, so it sounds as though I'll find wiring that matches up. This forum is great! I don't know how much time and money it has saved me. Thanks again
