Greetings all,

Just picked up my first Fiero, an '86 GT, with the intent of converting it to track duty over the next couple of years. Question for those of you out there tracking your V8 Fieros: What are you guys doing about cooling them? I'm certain 30 minute sessions at Thunderhill in July will cause some heat problems. Thanks.

I've never taken my V8 Fiero to the track, but it does get dang hot here in Kansas in the summer, so I've done a few cooling mods. First thing on the agenda is a bigger radiator. Then, a good front air dam to funnel fresh air into the radiator. Next, venting the hood to allow hot air to escape over the car. Finally, side scoops and a rear deck lid scoop to ventilate the engine compartment.

since you wont need the spare tire you can rip out a lot of the sheet metal there too to help with air flow in the front

My brain is somewhere else . . .

I'm trying to picture a Fiero with tracks, like a bulldozer.

This one was raced on tracks in Southern CA with no cooling problems. Four core radiator you can't tell from stock, 175 thermal fan switch, coolant restrictor flange at inlet to engine (no thermostat), 60% glycol/40% water mix. Handles bumper to bumper stop and go just fine as well.

Very nice looking car, CalKid.

Couple more questions if you don't mind:

Are you using an electric water pump, and if so, which make/model?

Also, did you register the car in California? Am wondering how much of a pain in the a$$ that is here.

Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment!

Engine is a highly modified 91 Corvette L98, has the short shaft Corvette water pump on it, couple to a Ford single groove pulley (approx 4" dia. don't know PN).

The car was registered in CA (still have plate), but I don't know if the owner had any tricks to registering it there.

the stock cooling system will survive a full 200hp output for 3hrs with an oil cooler on an 80 deg day and then back again (dont ask)
