I don't think my temperature sensor is working since the gauge never moves. I was wonderin exactly how it worked. I know that its just a resistor that varies with temperature but doesn't the ECU need a voltage signal as an input. I can't see how a resistance can be an input. so how does the gauge work? Any EE's out there give me a clue?

CLT? Do you mean CTS? Coolant Temperature Sensor?

The sensor is a temperature variable resistor as one leg of voltage divider. As the resistance changes, the center of the divider changes voltage. Send that to an 8 bit A/D converter, look up the voltage in a table (it isn't linear) and you have the temperature.

The sensor for the gauge and the sensor for the ECM are seperate.

There are two separate coolant sensors on the engine. One works directly with the gauge, the other with the ECM.
