Ok this is really weird. I just bought my first Fiero about a week ago. I was finding out what type of engine, trans, etc, when it was first released from the factory.
I found out through the vin # on the car
that my car is a 1984 2.5 4cyl TBI 4 speed.
The car actually has a 2.8 6cyl MFI 5 speed GT. Somebody once told me that they didnt make a 1984 GT. They only made the GT in 1985. I spoke to the prev owner he said that he bought the car new in 1985 and did nothing to it. The car has been the same since he bought it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Well the GT did not come out until 1985. And the 5sp Manual was not availible until 1986.
So someone has done some transplant work during its life !!!.

Yup...no such thing as an 84 GT. 84s only came w/ the 2.5 4 banger as well. If you've got a V6, someone has converted along the way. What does the body look like? "Boatnose" or aero effects?

If it was an early 85GT it would have been "built" in 84 but that doesn't explain the VIN number.

i would say you have a vin swapped car.

do you have a hump in the rear decklid? or does it have a vent in the middle back by the rear glass?

welcome to the forum!!

also. how are your shift cables routed? if they are both over the intake hose then its an isuzu 5 speed
if one comes from under the car and one from over the trans then its a getrag 5 speed.

The car does have a hump in the rear decklid
as for the vent there is not one.
From your description on where the cables are routed in looks like it is a getrag 5 speed.
From bumper to bumper it has all the traits of a 1985 GT
