did pontiac mess up on this? or is it just me. the pop wont work. with it bolted on the deck lid, i ran a jumper wire straight to the battery, still didnt work. i even put one on from my beretta, which i know works. now the solenoid is grounded by bolting it down right? if thats so, how can it get a ground from a fiberglass decklid?!?! any ideas, do i need to run a jumper ground wire?

it is grounded when it is closed and the latch is tight agains the loop in the trunk. i had to cut some material off of the shoulders on the deck lid to move the latch up so the lid would be closed tighter to make a ground.

one more thing, i believe the tranny has to be in park if auto, or have the ebrake on if manual for power to come out of the switch.

Buddy is right. I got around the latch ground problem by running a ground wire in the same channel used by the power wire, and grounded it near the deck hinge. Mine will only "pop" when the E-Brake is on, or the engine is off. Neutral does not seem to be needed.
Now, if I could just get my trunk light to work---

Noticed a coroded braided ground wire hangin' from the decklid of my 86SE, previous owner ahd just run a regular copper strand plastic sheath wire from the latch itself to a grounding point near the hinge.

Have you checked the bulb itself? Mine never seemed to work- then I popped the clear cover to reveal a nicely corroded bulb & contacts... clean'em and/or replace the bulb and everything is fine now!
