I seen new PCV valves at the auto store for $3.Are they the same as the orignal dealer item? Mine rattles does this mean it's still good? It always has milky colored oil in it.Thanks

Sometimes you can get by with, or have to get by with aftermarket. BUT, when it comes to PCV valves, you're better off with OEM. I have seen just slight variations in specs or materials or ?, but that is all it takes. And after you buy 2 or more aftermarket, you could have an OEM.
Luck,

TG

That would worry me. Water/coolant in the oil?

The color/texture of the oil is a much bigger worry than the PCV source for you. It means water has gotten into the oil someplace. You need to sort that out ASAP. If you let it go you can ruin the engine.

I agree with the above! Does the oil on the dip stick look funny? Flush the motor and do an oil change with new filter. Replace the PCV valve and keep an eye on the oil! You may have a bad head gasket, cracked head or block. Notice anything funny about the exhaust?

The exhaust looks ok but I own three diesels also.
I found out just lately that the former owner put a new head gasket on it.He said it leaks a little water but couldn't find the location of it.Looks like I found it.

If they replaced the head gasket, they probably had the intake off. Either one could cause a leak if not installed correctly. I'm guessing the head tho. Probably not leaking enough yet to show in the pan.

You should get a new gasket set and new head bolts. Never reuse L4 head bolts. The original bolts are known to be weak.

There are two kinds of head bolts. Regular ones and Torque To Yield.

Regular bolts could normally be reused but as I said above the OE ones are known to be weak so don't reuse those.

TTY bolts are one shot items. They should never be reused.

Since many 84 cars have had engines replaced, the engine could have either type of bolt in it.

You can get bolt sets thru most parts stores.
