Well...we have seen the exploits of Catalytic Converters on our beloved fieros. I, personally, dont want to worry about a small oil leak causing a fire (as others have stated COULD happen) when the cat is hot. What is your opinion on this?

Would running a high-flow cat reduce the temps of a cat over stock?
OR
Would a Cat eliminator pipe be what the doctor ordered to deal with the fire problem?

What are your thoughts?

I think that DOGS are meaner than cats!! haha

The answer is NOT to have an oil leak in the first place! The cat can f up some stuff and YES cause a fire, but you still have a "hot" pipe there if oil was to drip down there.

if the cat IS clogged then watch out! First the back pressure WILL make a crack in your stock exhaust, then after that the heat/flames<? will melt the wires coming out from the interior there. then FIRE!!

I used a heatshield from a old exhaust as a heat shield JUST FOR THE WIRES. Plus if in dought replace the cat with a free flowing(no worries with that )

For the catalytic converter to work properly, it needs to run at high temperature. So a free flow cat doesn't run at any lower temp. Preventive maintenance is the best course of action and not have oil leaks and not to park on dry leaves.

Yup, a cat works like an oven/stove (read: she gets nice & toasty) and heats any excess (sp?) fuel in the exhaust high enough to break it down.

Personally: I take cats off any vehicle I have. I even took all 4 (yes, four) off of the 2000 Mustang GT I had. If you take them off, you never have to spend the $ to replace them if they ever go bad. That is the only reason I remove them, I'm to freakin cheap

Remove the cat!
Get extra HP, Torque, and as an added bonus you get nice flames shooting out of your exhaust when shifting at WOT.

Just keep one on hand if you have inspections in your area. That way you only need it on inspection day.

Woof....I am only afraid of the dogs with 2 different colored eyes or something thats bigger than I am.

The reason I asked this was to see if there was a way to lessen the amount of heat generated by the catalytic converter. I think that I am safe, though. I knew that mine was replaced, but the way that the others were talking in that burned GT Pix thread had me wondering what was up with the cat.

I am glad that Glhboy likes his cars!
